[DND] DM Adam is giving out 100 XP for completed IC journals. 50 XP per adventure half
(wedding and bandits).
---------New activity since 05:59:38 PM---------
[DND] Jesse says, "IC journals meaning journals our character kepts?"
[DND] Jesse says, "keeps I mean"
[DND] DM Adam says, "Yep."
---------New activity since 06:00:38 PM---------
[DND] Jesse says, "Sweet. Then I'd need 80 more XP to level!"
[DND] DM Adam says, "I didn't give you guys the twin bonus last night because I didn't
think you really exploited or rp'ed your twinness. I'm gonna have to think
carefully about what actions trigger that bonus. On one hand, it's very specific
(way more specific than Family) so it's harder to trigger so I need to be more
lenient. On the other hand, the actions need to be somehow different than Family."
---------New activity since 06:05:33 PM---------
[DND] Jesse says, "I still don't understand the nature of trigging said bonds, so I
don't know much how to trigger them. :)"
[DND] DM Adam says, "Well, there's two ways to trigger them. One gets you XP and the
other gets you +bonuses."
[DND] Jesse says, "The +bonuses makes more sense."
[DND] DM Adam says, "Here's the rule as written: Over time, the investment you make in
a character bond will pay for itself, and more. Every time your character does
something significant related to that bond, you'll get an XP bonus. This bonus is
expressed as multiplier of the bond (e.g., "10x"). Multiply this number times
your bond to determine how many XP you earn. For example a 10x reward for a +2
bond nets 10x2 = 20 XP."
[DND] Jesse says, "See, that's the part makes no sense to me. "does something
significant related to that bond"."
[DND] DM Adam says, ""Significant" generally requires one or more of the following to
be true: 1. The action represents a conflict of interest. 2. The action is
difficult for the character. 3. The action makes a really great story. 4. The
action represents a sacrifice of some kind."
[DND] Jesse says, "Aaaaaaaah. I see."
[DND] Jesse says, "Makes sense."
[DND] DM Adam says, "I could think of very little twinness from last night that
triggered any of those four circumstances."
[DND] Ana let myself get whacked by the owlbear last night cause of my bonds. Hee.
[DND] Jesse says, "Nope, it was all RP stuff."
[DND] DM Adam says, "Your main opportunity was the first scene -- and I think you
realized this later -- when you ditched your twin sister with the Berus family."
[DND] Jesse says, "No "danger" or "difficulty"."
[DND] DM Adam says, "I did give you the bond XP for that, didn't I, Ana?"
[DND] Ana says, "Yeah. :)"
[DND] Jesse says, "Meh. We did go off and save the princess together, Adam. :)"
[DND] Jesse thinks that might outweigh leaving my sister with the noble family. :)
[DND] DM Adam says, "You did, but how was that Twin and not Family or Kingdom?"
[DND] Jesse says, "How is anything I do with her, not family? I am confused on this."
[DND] DM Adam says, "Doing stuff with her isn't family. Doing stuff for her is."
[DND] DM Adam says, "Your action should support the cause represented by the bond."
[DND] Jesse says, "Aaah. I see."
[DND] DM Adam says, "The 'cause of Twin' is hard to nail down. It's like 'cause of
Sibling,' but deeper. It's very different from Family."
[DND] Jesse says, "Yeah. I am sure it'll flesh itself out more as we play."
[DND] DM Adam says, "I think you two need to coordinate some things to get the bond
bonus. Like saying the same things IC, playing out parallel scenes and doing
the same kinds of things though you don't know it ICly. That kind of thing."
[DND] DM Adam says, "Remember, the campaign is about duty. Honoring your Duty to
your Twin is the easiest way to get that bonus."
---------New activity since 06:17:22 PM---------
[DND] Jesse says, "Yes, but I am not playing to "score bond points" either. :)"
[DND] DM Adam says, "Fair enough. =)"
[DND] Jesse is not complaining he didn't get points, don't think that! I think it's
just... I dunno. Bonds feel like something that'll need to come naturally. :)
[DND] DM Adam says, "But I believe that you chose your bonds in a way that describes
your priorities for your character and the stories you want to tell. If that's
the case, doing things to score bond points necessarily addresses role-play the
way you want to play."
[DND] Jesse says, "Yes, but I don't know that my bond to my twin means I won't do
things to make her uncomfortable. Tyrus left her w/ those nobles cause he
enjoys putting her in social situations like that. :)"
[DND] DM Adam nods. "If that kind of competition becomes something that goes both ways
(she does those things to you, too), I'd be happy to call it something that
activates a Twin bonus."
---------New activity since 06:22:30 PM---------
[DND] Jesse says, "Yes, that'd make sense."
[DND] DM Adam says, "I tend to overtheorize stuff. If I start doing that and
detracting from your player fun, just let me know I'm deep in Theory Land (even
use those words) and I'll back off. =) I'm just game designing here and enjoy
talking out some of these ideas."
---------New activity since 06:24:28 PM---------
[DND] Jesse says, "Well, let's see how their story works out. :)"
[DND] Jesse had a ton of fun RPing with SSB lastnight, but I think it was more because
we're enjoying the simple bond of siblinghood. I noticed A LOT more RP simply
cause we were siblings.
[DND] DM Adam nodnods.
[DND] DM Adam says, "No one monologued. I think Lisa tried, but she didn't SAY she was
doing it so no one listened. That's when she ranted herself literally to tears."
---------New activity since 06:26:48 PM---------
[DND] Jesse says, "Yeah."
[DND] DM Adam says, "I was like, shit, Lisa actually made herself teary."
---------New activity since 06:27:20 PM---------
[DND] Jesse grins. :) I noticed that. It was cool!
---------New activity since 06:38:58 PM---------
[DND] Lisa wasn't really monologuing. She was being the baby sister who no one
listens to :)
[DND] Ania has left this channel.
[DND] Lisa says, "Just you wait until I put snakes in their bed though :)"
[DND] Lisa ahems. :)
