"Being a hero is about the shortest lived profession on earth."
— Will Rogers

You are destined to become a hero — the village council has told you so but you do not believe it. You are doubtful. You are afraid. Dozens of others before you tried to kill the dragon and died. They were faster, stronger, smarter, and braver. But the council has spoken. You and the others are the Destined. There was an omen, a cluster of hawks attacking an eagle. This time, the dragon won’t settle on snatching up a few villagers and burning down huts. It will kill every last living creature in the village. You have to go. Everyone is counting on you. But how can you? You don't know how to fight a dragon!

In Heroes, you will play one of the Destined, a young adult who has been selected to save a remote village from a terrible monster. Unlike typical fantasy games, your character does not start a hero. You will have to earn that. Through play, you will have to build up the courage to even start the journey. The game is about the village's high expectations of its would-be heroes and each character's self-doubt and personal demons.

Players will not only develop their characters, but they will also invent villagers to challenge the other players' characters. Through various kinds of social, emotional, mental, physical, and spiritual trials, players will push each other's characters to grow so that they can, as a group, face and overcome the dragon.

Heroes plays best with five or six players, one of whom will take on the role of Destiny (game moderator). You can play with less than five or more than six players, but game play will suffer. Too many players will cause the game to crawl. Too few players will create too little friction for a good game.

The game requires some dice, pencils, paper, and the usual things wanted by a role-playing game.
