Deck and patio

We've wanted a deck since we moved into our house in 2000 but never had the money. When we refinanced our house and switched over to a conventional loan, we had gained a lot of money in equity from the increased value of the house. We added a bit onto the loan and had a small deck and a large patio built.

The small yard behind our house is a little valley of sorts. The lawn slopes gently away from the house for about 10 feet then it slopes sharply up into the woods. The land slopes sharply left to right, as well. That means that a lot of rain channels right into our lawn. It eventually runs off, but there's a dip in the middle where it collected and turns into a swamp. Furthermore, the "nook" between our sunroom extension and our neighbor's house tends to get mucky. We decided to put an L-shaped patio around our extension on the ground (basement) level and a small deck in the nook up top, exiting from the kitchen/dining area.
